Middle School Milers is a club is an 8 week program that hosts classes twice a week to expose kids to running in a fun, safe environment. Joining this club will teach and improve a number of things, including:
Importance of Structure:
Having a schedule and following workouts made with purpose teaches athletes the importance of structure and showing up. Just showing up to practice and trying your best will yield in significant improvement.
Discipline and Attitude:
Running, especially endurance running, is a mental sport. Your body is capable of anything your mind allows. Pushing through pain and putting in hard work not only makes you a better runner, but makes you a mentally stronger person. A positive attitude leads to a better experience and dramatic progress.
Injury Prevention:
Injuries are bound to happen in any sport, but most of them can be prevented with proper conditioning and caution. Strength and conditioning will be held at the end of each run to strengthen muscle, which can dramatically decrease an athletes risk of injury. Learning and implementing proper running form, warming up, staying hydrated, stretching after runs, and proper nutrition are all also crucial to injury prevention.
Sportsmanship and Community
This club is a great way to improve yourself and surround yourself with people trying to do the same. It is a healthy environment to be in and helps makes friends and connections with people who have similar interests.
Overall Physical and Mental Health:
Running is one of the best sports anyone can participate in. It works and keeps the most important muscle in our body healthy -- the heart. Cardiovascular health is extremely important to leading a long, healthy, and happy life. Whether you plan on doing a sport involving running in the future or not, this club provides a great, structured environment to improve your overall physical health, and can act as conditioning to help you excel in any sport you currently do or pursue in the future.
